Our community is rich in history and diversity, with people of many cultures living here, businesses of many sectors operating here, and the community evolving here.
Over the years, we have heard and seen a lot of things in our district that have given us pause to reflect. Are these things that help our community, or hinder its progress and evolution?
Just because things are done a certain way, are we supposed to accept it, or challenge it in hopes of a better tomorrow?
The founding members of OldTownBeaverton.com have all written to City Council expressing our collective concerns and viewpoints. Many of us have testified in person and had individual conversations with local leadership.
We don’t have to do this. We could simply hold status quo and continue on, but that’s not how change is effected. Advocacy requires action.
Our primary goals are to bring awareness to Old Town, and facilitate the sustainable growth and “health” of our district. Additional concerns include: Outdoor dining fees, parking, ADA accessibility, safer sidewalks, and after-hours safety.
In coming days, look for a series of op-ed pieces on our website and social feeds, in which we will address these concerns.
Our intent is to encourage honest, open conversation between residents, businesses, and local leaders, with a positive outcome that will benefit Old Town Beaverton.
