A Day in the Life of a Small Business Owner

For those of us small businesses owners on First Street in Old Town Beaverton, Oregon, our day starts early. Whether we are in our shops before open deep cleaning for the day, or on computers answering emails and sending orders, we all work many hours. Some say that being a business owner gives you a lot of freedom. Yes, that is true in some senses, but for me, I have found I work more hours than I ever did in corporate America. Is it worth it? Yes, at the end of the day, I would say yes.
I love this neighborhood. I love waking up with a cup of tea, strategizing with my neighbors on how we can make the most desired neighborhood to live, dine, and shop. Many of us small business owners communicate behind the scenes to create programs, sales, or incentives to encourage your next visit. Many of us run our own social media accounts and create our own advertising. We also probably are the ones behind the lens of those beautiful pictures of products or food.
We do it all. As a business owner, we all need to know a lot of different things at the same time. We don’t necessarily specialize in one area of business because that would disregard payroll, bills, taxes, and inventory control. What you see when we open our doors takes a lot of hours behind the scenes. We wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Next time you are in Old Town Beaverton, trying shopping or dining at more than one of our businesses on the same day. We are all stronger together.
